LAS CRUCES, NM– Today, NM-02 Congressman and Democratic nominee Gabe Vasquez announced he has earned the endorsement of the NMPFFA and IAFF Local 244 and American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1050. These unions represent thousands of New Mexicans public safety officers who have benefitted from Gabe’s nonstop work to deliver results for working people.
“I firmly believe that every New Mexican deserves to feel safe in their community, and I know that public safety starts with investing in the firefighters, first responders, federal employees, and public servants who serve our community every day,” said NM-02 Congressman and Democratic nominee Gabe Vasquez. “I am honored to earn the support of NMPFFA and IAFF Local 244 and AFGE Local 1050 and look forward to our continued partnership.”
Gabe has an extensive record of supporting union labor, public safety agencies and working with all forms of law enforcement to make our communities safer. In his four years in Congress, he has delivered over $3 million to public safety agencies across the district that brought new and improved public safety facilities in Carlsbad, Deming, and Belen; invested in first responders communications in Luna and Sierra County and across New Mexico; and helped the Albuquerque Police Department to update their crime center. And is leading the effort to secure funding to bring new emergency vehicles to Bernalillo County and the Gila Regional Medical Center, update the Lordsburg Public Safety building, and help the Las Cruces Police department purchase new gun shot detection technology to improve response time. While politicians in Washington made the government shutdown a political game late last year, Gabe stood with TSA agents and federal workers in calling his peers to get back to work and re-open the government.

To date, Gabe has earned the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 18; American Federation of Teachers (AFT) New Mexico; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 611; and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) Local 49; Young Democrats of New Mexico; Stop Gun Violence PAC; Brady PAC; Giffords PAC; Moms Demand Action; New Mexico State University Young Democrats; and multiple community partners.
Gabe is the only Democrat to have won New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District twice consecutively. In 2022, he beat incumbent Yvette Herrell by the tightest margin in the country (0.7%). Last cycle, Gabe again defeated Yvette Herrell, this time by 4%— the same year that Donald Trump won the district by 2% — making him one of just 14 Democrats to win a district that went for Trump in 2024. Gabe has continued to win over Democrat, Republican and Independent voters because he is willing to work with anyone to deliver results for New Mexicans on the issues they care most about: lowering the cost of living, expanding access to health care, protecting our public lands, and fixing our broken immigration system. In November, he will set another historic record by winning New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District for a third consecutive cycle.
