Las Cruces, NM – Today Gabe Vasquez’s campaign for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District announced raising over $1.55 million in the third quarter of 2022. This record amount is more than 2.5 times what Vasquez raised in the second quarter of 2022, when he outraised incumbent Representative Yvette Herrell. Vasquez’s fundraising prowess is apparent; raising more than Yvette Herrell has ever raised in any reported quarter when she has been a candidate for Congress. Today’s numbers come on top of a poll released yesterday by the Vasquez campaign which has him leading Yvette Herrell by two points, confirming that the momentum in this campaign is clearly with Vasquez.
“There is a real hunger for change in our district and this show of support proves it. People are tired of extremists like Yvette Herrell pushing their dangerous agendas instead of working for the people,” said Gabe Vasquez. “In Congress I’ll always put New Mexicans first by working to lower costs for health care, prescription drugs, child care, and energy, while helping workers and prioritizing our small businesses.”
New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District swung from a +12 Trump district to a +6 Biden district after redistricting in 2020. Gabe Vasquez garnered early support from national Democrats, earning a coveted spot on the DCCC’s first ‘Red to Blue’ recruitment rollout. Vasquez’s momentum has only continued to grow through the summer with continued fundraising success and public polling showing Vasquez holding an early lead over a vulnerable Herrell.
With only 34 days before the election, Vasquez is in a strong position to flip this seat. The race for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District remains one of the most competitive in the country and will be key in determining which party controls the House after November.
