Meanwhile, President Trump ignores New Mexicans’ pain at the pump, grocery store, and more, saying: “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation”

Las Cruces, NM – Today, a new ad titled “My Only Priority” goes live in both English and Spanish in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional district, and it reminds NM-02 voters what President Trump and Greg Cunningham’s priorities are — in their own words.
While New Mexicans grapple with the skyrocketing cost of groceries, gas, diesel, rent, and mortgages — and 89,000 New Mexicans lose their healthcare due to cuts made under the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — the ad features clips of Greg Cunningham and President Trump saying firsthand that their top priorities aren’t bringing down costs for New Mexicans:
- In a local podcast interview, Greg Cunningham affirmed that his “number one priority … is getting the President’s agenda through” in Congress — a stance he has reiterated in interviews and campaign materials since.
- And in May, as Americans struggled with soaring gas prices due to his reckless war in Iran, President Trump said the quiet part out loud and made it clear that he is not focused on putting “America First,” instead saying “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.”
- This indeed seems to be the case, as diesel prices hit record highs amidst the President’s $38 billion dollar conflict in Iran — with no sign of the President putting a stop to it or pursuing a strategic exit ramp to bring hardworking Americans financial relief.
“Cunningham has made it crystal clear that a vote for him is a vote for President Trump and the MAGA agenda in Congress — and with this new ad, you get to hear him make that promise in his own words,” said Patricia Socarras Santiago, campaign spokesperson. “A vote for Greg is a vote for more tariffs, a longer war in Iran, higher gas and diesel prices, and more out-of-control decisionmaking in Washington that leaves hardworking, everyday New Mexicans like you to foot the bill.”
Cunningham continues to make it clear that his priority is — and always will be — supporting President Trump and the MAGA agenda in Congress, not fighting to make life more affordable for New Mexicans:
- Cunningham has welcomed endorsements from a host of leaders in the extreme MAGA movement, including President Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Yvette Herrell, and more. He is also a member of the NRCC’s “MAGA Majority” cohort.
- Cunningham welcomed Speaker Johnson — the mastermind behind the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that cut healthcare coverage for 89,000 New Mexicans and food assistance for 60,000 hardworking New Mexico families — to New Mexico with open arms, hosting him at an out-of-district event in Albuquerque in August.
- Cunningham has repeatedly made it clear that he answers to his MAGA money backers, and his focus would be on doing their bidding in Congress:
- Greg Cunningham’s FEC filing tells the story: after MAGA leadership endorsed him, MAGA Republicans in Washington poured roughly $400,000 into his campaign in just ten weeks — nearly 45 cents of every dollar he raised in Q2.
- Earlier this month, Cunningham skipped town to go kiss President Trump’s ring in Dallas and speak at the MAGA midterm convention — becoming the only candidate or elected official from New Mexico to do so amidst the President’s disrespectful calls to rename New Mexico to “New America.” Mere minutes after speaking on the mainstage in Dallas, Cunningham received a $455,300 cash infusion in the form of ad buys supporting his campaign from President Trump’s dark money group, No Going Back PAC.
In the new ad live today, Democratic nominee and incumbent Gabe Vasquez draws contrast between himself and his opponent, stating, “I’m Gabe Vasquez, and that’s the difference in this election. Fighting for New Mexico is my only priority.”
To date, Gabe has also earned the endorsements of AFGE Local 1050; AFT New Mexico; Brady PAC; Committee of Interns and Residents of New Mexico; AFSCME Council 18; New Mexico Carpenters Local 1319; CWA Unidos Local 7076; Education Votes; Equality PAC; Giffords PAC; Human Rights Campaign; IBEW Local 611; Latino Victory; League of Conservation Voters; Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate; MoveOn; National Wildlife Action Fund; NRDC Action Fund; National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare; New Mexico State Council of Machinists; New Mexico Federation of Labor; New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters Association; New Mexico State College Dems; The Next 50; Organizers in the Land of Enchantment (OLÉ); Repro Freedom For All; Semilla Action; Sierra Club; SMART Local 49; Stop Gun Violence PAC; and Young Democrats of New Mexico.
Gabe is the only Democrat to have won New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District twice consecutively. In 2022, he beat incumbent Yvette Herrell by the tightest margin in the country (0.7%). Last cycle, Gabe again defeated Yvette Herrell, this time by 4%— the same year that Donald Trump won the district by 2% — making him one of just 14 Democrats to win a district that went for Trump in 2024. Gabe has continued to win over Democrat, Republican and Independent voters because he is willing to work with anyone to deliver results for New Mexicans on the issues they care most about: lowering the cost of living, expanding access to health care, protecting our public lands, and fixing our broken immigration system. In November, he will set another historic record by winning New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District for a third consecutive cycle.
