Vasquez’s Campaign Continues to Draw National Attention as One of the Best Pick-up Opportunities for Democrats in 2022
Las Cruces, NM – The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has named Gabe Vasquez to their Red to Blue program, a list of candidates most likely to flip control of Republican held House seats in November. Vasquez is running in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District against incumbent Yvette Herrell.
“I’ve spent my career fighting for working families, helping small businesses, and protecting our public lands and natural resources. Being on Red to Blue shows that the nation’s eyes are on our district, highlighting something we already knew – taking this seat come November is vital,” said Gabe Vasquez. “We face significant challenges but we also have the potential to harness tremendous opportunities. Our district deserves leadership that will put New Mexicans first, work to solve the problems of our communities, and put aside the partisan political games my opponent spends so much time on.”
“Gabe Vasquez proved himself a champion for New Mexico’s working families as a Las Cruces councilmember. As a first-generation American, Gabe has lived the American Dream and is running for Congress to ensure that Dream remains a reality for anyone willing to work hard and play by the rules,” said DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy. “He is ready to take on Yvette Herrell and her radical record of spewing extremism and COVID-19 conspiracies. With Gabe Vasquez, residents of New Mexico’s 2nd will finally have a representative who will fight for them and build an economy that benefits everyone.”
Red to Blue is a highly competitive DCCC program that provides top-tier candidates with support for their campaigns. Candidates on this list are recognized by the DCCC as the best opportunities to flip Republican held seats in 2022. With Republicans only needing five seats to take control of the House, New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District will once again be a major battleground for both parties.
Gabe Vasquez launched his campaign in September with a mission to bring good-paying jobs to New Mexico, expand access to affordable, high-quality health care for all, and protect New Mexico’s natural resources for everyone. He has gained the support of leaders across New Mexico, with the endorsements of U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez, New Mexico labor unions, and more than 50 New Mexican leaders of all parties who support Vasquez’s campaign against Representative Yvette Herrell.
